Paraplanners Powwow comes down south!!

In September this year more than 70 paraplanners congregated in giant teepees in a Northamptonshire field to exchange views, compare notes, learn and share information and ideas. It was the inaugural Paraplanners Powwow.

This is being followed by a number of regional events. The first, the Paraplanners Powwow Up North, took place in Leeds in mid October. The next will be the Paraplanners Powwow Down South.

Powwows are not for profit events that stem from a simple idea: To provide a place where paraplanners can meet to exchange views about the future of our profession, to learn things, to fix things and to share things.

Described as an 'unconference' where Paraplanners design their own agenda, the Powwow Down South may be held in London or Reading (or another venue in the South) in mid-January. Further venues may well be announced in the new year due to demand.

The two principal organisers of the southern event are John Redmond, Paraplanner at BPH Wealth Management in Harpenden, and Alan Gow of Argonaut Paraplanning. They are supported by paraplanners Richard Allum, Claire Goodwin and Jo Hague.

Initially the group would like paraplanners in the region to complete a 3 question survey to help select the date and location for the Powwow Down South. So far more than 40 paraplanners have responded.

The first Paraplanner Powwow was an all day event held in teepees, however the regional events will be smaller and will take place indoors, typically lasting 2 to 3 hours.

The powwow is not about just listening to speakers; the key to success of the event is the participation of those who attend. The agenda is to be decided by the participants in advance of the event.

Importantly, in order for the spirit of the Powwow to prevail, there is one ingredient that cannot be missing from any Powwow – chocolate!

At the first Paraplanner Powwow participants and others were able to follow progress on Twitter through the official Twitter feed @ParaPowwow. To get in touch with John Redmond or Alan Gow about the Paraplanner Powwow Down South, tweet to @powwow or email john.redmond@bphwealth.co.uk or alan@argonautpp.com.
