Bright Grey: Who would you trust with your children?

Bringing up children with two parents in a household is hard enough, but for single parents, there’s no one to share the job.  In the UK there are over 13.2 million dependent children.  76% of them live in a two-parent family but 24% have just one parent caring for them.

At the moment the gender directive is front of mind for lots of IFAs.  We’ve been talking in the industry about how to sell life insurance to women before the price goes up. But when you consider that 92% of the single parent carers in the UK are women, there’s suddenly another, very important angle to consider.  It’s not just about saving money now before life cover costs increase, it’s about making sure that that cover can be used to protect the children if the worst does happen.

If your single mum clients can’t see the value of life insurance for themselves, you know that they’ll understand its value when you talk to them about their children.  And setting up protection for your female clients is only half the job. With statistics like these, you need to make sure your clients have the right will, guardianship and trust arrangements in place so that their children are looked after by the right people, with the money that their mum has left for them.

Our good parent portfolio helps you talk to the mums on your books about all of these things – the things that most mums can’t even bear to think about – who would look after their children if they died.  Who would they trust with their children’s care? It includes key questions like this, as well as support material on all aspects of trusts, wills and guardianship.

Have the conversation now, before it’s too late.
