Bright Grey: Reaching 40 really is something to celebrate

Some women see their 40th birthday as the start of the ageing process and they worry about grey hair and wrinkles. But ask any woman who's been living with a critical illness how she feels on reaching 40 and she'll give you lots of reasons to celebrate.

Our claims statistics show that 50% of women who claimed on their Bright Grey critical illness plan were under 40[1]. And the youngest was just 23[2]. Which proves that illness doesn't discriminate by age. And from 21 December this year, the insurance industry will no longer be able to discriminate by gender when setting life insurance premiums.

So to help you make the most of these opportunities, we've produced a sales aid you can use to target women under 40. You can upload your logo, personalise it as your own and print for mailing or face-to-face meetings. Or maybe you would prefer to copy the information into an email to send out to your customer base of women in their twenties and thirties?

Of course there will be the usual objections. 23 might feel too young to take out a protection plan, but it wasn't too young for the woman who claimed on her Bright Grey plan. Women might think 'it will never happen to me' but statistics show otherwise – almost 15,000 women a year are diagnosed with one of the top five female cancers[3].  And 40% of all Bright Grey cancer claims were for breast cancer. So rather than wait for women to say 'I can't afford protection', maybe now is the time to challenge with 'Can you afford not to?'

Protection isn't at the top of any woman's shopping list. But with many under-insured and life cover prices set to rise from 21 December, this is one bargain they can't afford to miss.
