Scottish Life: Automatic enrolment update February 2012

On the 25th of January, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) published a press release about the employer duties staging dates. Basically, they will be pushed back by about a year.

The release confirms that employers with more than 250 people in their PAYE scheme will have the same staging dates as previously advised last year but employers with less than 250 will have new staging dates.

The phasing of the minimum contribution levels has also been pushed out by a year so that we won't get to the infamous 8% level until October 2018, instead of October 2017.

It's worth noting that the actual regulations setting out the new dates have not yet been published so at the moment, we cannot say when a small employer's staging date will actually be. We should have the final regulations by spring.
