iPad business overview from the States

Advisors are finding that tablet computers—and especially the iPad—offer a range of benefits you just can't get with a laptop. Here's how "thinner, lighter, faster" is helping advisors put in a whole lot more face time.

When Apple introduced the iPad last year, few expected it to be a business sensation. But it's become one, and, even more surprisingly, the financial services industry is quickly becoming one of its major adopters.

Advisors cite many advantages to iPads and other tablet computers: they are light, portable, and make what's essentially a mobile job easier, especially when you can access all of the information you have from your office. "It's much lighter than a laptop because it only weighs a pound and a half," says Starrett Dalton, a registered representative with Securities America in Tiburon, Calif. "That difference of three or four pounds over a laptop makes a huge difference when you're on the road, especially when you can access everything."
