Beyond Encryption: UK economy loses £210 per person to fraud - 2015/2016

Figures published today by 'Get Safe Online' reveal the extent to which fraud, the most prevalent crime in England and Wales, is damaging the UK Economy.

A staggering £10.9 billion was lost to the UK Economy as a result of fraud according to figures for 2015/16 whilst a specially commissioned survey revealed that this number, as reported by victims of online crime, was at an average of £523 each, more than the average weekly earnings in the UK.

10% of those questioned had been the victims of email or social media account hacks with the consequential damage being impossible to measure / track.
